Abhyangam, which translates to "oil
massage," is an integral part of the Panchakarma process at Nagarjuna.
It involves a synchronized and systematic massage performed by two
expert therapists. The aim of Abhyangam is to enhance metabolism,
improve tissue respiration, and increase circulation, thereby aiding the
efficient elimination of waste products from the body. This traditional
oil massage offers a range of benefits, including improved
concentration, intelligence, confidence, and youthfulness. It is
particularly effective in alleviating Vata-related issues.
Abhyangam not only provides physical benefits but also promotes
mental well-being. It brings comfort to the eyes, facilitates sound
sleep, and tones the body. The massage enhances flexibility and imparts a
soft and firm quality to the skin, contributing to a youthful
appearance. Additionally, it is believed to support longevity. With its
roots in ancient practices, Abhyangam is known for its ability to
alleviate muscular fatigue and pain.
During the massage, a special wooden table called "Dhroni" is
utilized. These Dhronis are crafted from medicinal trees such as Neem or
Nuxvomica, known for their therapeutic properties. The use of these
specially designed wooden tables adds to the authenticity and
effectiveness of the Abhyangam experience.
